October 2 Trail Cleanup Announced
As the first part of its fifth initiative, Initiative Fractal will be hosting a cleanup on the Rails-to-Trails from 2-4 pm on Sunday, October 2. This cleanup will focus on the section of the trail between Highway 67 and Miller Road, and volunteers are asked to meet at the Miller Road trailhead.
The goal of the cleanup is to make progress on a number of fronts. A quarter-mile into the trail, the handrails of a wooden trail bridge were destroyed in a recent windstorm and are currently submerged in the creek below. Volunteers who are willing to do so will extract the timbers from the water and place salvageable pieces near the sides of the bridge deck for reuse. Just beyond the bridge, volunteers will be pruning back knee-deep weeds that have spread onto the asphalt itself. Volunteers will also be sweeping the trail, which will extend the life of the asphalt by encouraging good drainage.
Volunteers are requested to bring their own push brooms, pruners, and garden gloves if possible, but those without their own tools are encouraged to come as well. There are no restrooms on site. Water, snacks, and tick spray will be provided.
