While IF’s work at Mt. Zion is not quite finished, we are getting close to wrapping things up. Today, we completed our restoration of the gravestones themselves. The final count of ones we repaired and/or reset was 116, or about 2/5ths of the total number of stones in the cemetery. (And that figure does not reflect the approximately 75% of the stones in the cemetery that were cleaned.) As shown in the picture here, some of the stones required several time-consuming steps, from epoxying fragments together to filling in the remaining cracks with a mortar consisting of Natural Hydraulic Lime and fine-grained fracking sand. A few leaning and wobbly stones remain, but most of the stones in the worst shape have been given some long-overdue attention.
